Criminal Investigations
Posted On 11/28/2020 11:39:05

Criminal investigations are significant due to the purposes they serve. First of all, they aim at discovering the information that raises the suspicions of a crime having been committed. Secondly, they undercover, collect and preserve the evidence proving someone’s responsibility for committing a crime. Finally, criminal investigations identify the probable suspect and collect the testimonies that provide a set of reasons that allow to prosecute the suspect. Criminal investigations are important as they help to detect the person who has most probably committed the crime, thus, protecting the public from the dangerous people. On the other hand, a proper investigation performs the preventative function since if the criminal is identified, he is usually detained and, thus, is unable to commit further crimes.

The procedures that are to be followed during the criminal investigations are prescribed by the numerous laws, by-laws, and regulations. Yet, the most fundamental ones are contained even in the Bible. For example: Deuteronomy 19:15 NIV states that one witness is not enough to convict a man accused of any crime or offence he may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. This short passage obliges investigators to look for more evidence to prove someone’s guilt. It forewarns against retrieving information from only one witness as he/she might be biased or simply tell a lie. Moreover, witnesses are not trustworthy as their memory or visual perception might distort their own interpretation of the reality. Additionally, it should be stressed that the guilt of the person should be proved by evidences of different nature in order to ensure that no innocent individual will be punished.
